Project
'Pastel De Nata' Complete Interlock Installation
A loose, uneven front walk and step area was rebuilt into a more stable entrance with steps, landing, driveway extension, and a garden wall.
Project type Wall, Driveway, Landing, and Step Installation
Location Freelton, Ontario
Timeline <1 Month
Year 2021
Before / during / after
The work at each stage.
Site conditions, prep, installation, and handoff should all tell the same story.
Before
Ready for an upgrade
- Base would leak out from beneath the stone, causing it to shift and fall
- Steps were uneven, and uncomfortable, causing people to sometimes trip
Prep
Base prepared for driveway extension
- Permits are always requested and shown when required by the area
- Safety is important, especially when operating in retirement communities
Installation
Driveway extension installed, steps in process
- Base, step layout, and wall support were planned with freeze-thaw movement and day-to-day footing in mind
- Step spacing and transitions were planned to make the entrance easier to read and use
Installation
Garden Wall Installation
- Homeowner loved the work so much, they wanted to add a garden wall
- Built with a stormwater management system to avoid pooling, stagnant water sitting behind the wall
After
Finished, right at the end of an early snow storm
- Hand-chiseled caps to form pillars
- The finished entrance remained usable and clearly defined as winter weather arrived
